Columbus Crew 3 – New York Red Bulls 1 (MLS, September 18, 2008) Juan Pablo Angel put New York ahead in the 21st minute with a 32-yard free kick (8th goal in 10 games). The Crew equalised four minutes before the break, Frankie Hejduk scored his first goal in three years with a cross that sailed into the net. Columbus went ahead just 19 seconds into the second half as winger Robbie Rogers beat two defenders and unleashed a fine 30-yard strike. The hosts sealed the victory in the 85th minute as Hejduk ran into the penalty area and laid off for midfielder Eddie Gaven to score.
