Arsenal reserves 2 – Chelsea reserves 3 (Reserves League South, September 1, 2008) Didier Drogba played nearly an hour in his first game back after a knee operation. Mark Randall gave Arsenal the lead but Sergio Tejera, Michael Woods, and Scott Sinclair put Chelsea in the ascendancy. A late Rui Fonte free-kick gave the hosts hope but the Blues held on for an impressive win.
Bayern Munich 1 – Germany XI 1 (Exhibition, September 2, 2008) Oliver Kahn, 38, retired from professional football in a farewell match between his beloved Bayern Munich and a team comprised of German players. Germany XI opened the scoring through Piotr Trochowski in the 33rd minute, while Miroslav Klose equalised for Bayern after the break.
Heracles 3 – Feyenoord 1 (Eredivisie, August 31, 2008) The visitors took the lead in the first minute through Luiz Andre Bahia, but De Guzman then headed for an early bath following a professional foul. And Heracles made their advantage count with goals from Douglas, Klavan and Bridji.
FC Volendam 2 – Heerenveen 3 (Eredivisie, August 31, 2008) Christian Grindheim put Heerenveen in front two minutes before half-time with a stunning shot from 25-yards, but in the 65th minute Jack Tuyp equalised with a soft header. Tarik Elyounossi (68) restored Heerenveen’s lead and Danijel Pranjic (87) added a third as Tuyp could only net a 90th minute second.
NEC Nijmegen 2 – De Graafschap 0 (Eredivisie, August 31, 2008) Worm broke the deadlock in the 77th minute, although he soured the moment when he was sent off for his excessive celebration, before Otten sealed the win in the closing minutes with his first professional goal.

New England Revolution 0 – JOE Public 4 (Agg. 1-6) (CONCACAF Champions League, September 2, 2008) Gregory Richardson scored a first half brace, before completing his hat-trick with a left-footed drive in the 81st minute. Man of the match Richardson also earlier teed-up Roen Nelson for his goal just after the break.
Chivas USA 1 – Tauro FC 1 (Agg. 1-3) (CONCACAF Champions League, September 2, 2008) Chivas, who lost 2-0 in the away leg, missed a penalty earl on before finally making the breakthrough in the 42nd minute as Roberto Nurse scored on his debut. Chivas’ chances then suffered a blow when Jonathan Bornstein picked up his second yellow card and was sent off. Luis Moreno effectively ended the contest in the 63rd minute when he cut through the Chivas defense and scored with a shot across goal that went in off the post.
Real Esteli 0 – Montreal Impact 0 (Agg. 0-1) (CONCACAF Champions League, September 2, 2008) Montreal Impact of the United Soccer League, the second tier of North American football, become the only North American team to progress on Tuesday night, squeezing past Nicaragua’s Real Esteli on aggregate.
