Ever since teenager Gael Kakuta was snapped up by Chelsea the young Frenchman has been in the public eye.
There was great controversy when Kakuta signed for the Blues, with FIFA ruling that Chelsea had illegally acquired the player from RC Lens. As a result, the club were banned with making signings for two transfer windows, until the Court of Arbitration for Sport lifted the sanctions after ruling the transfer were not in breach of any contract Kakuta previously held with Lens.
Whilst making waves off the pitch, on it Kakuta has struggled to make any impact at Stamford Bridge. Repeatedly the burgeoning French talent has been farmed out in search of playing time, most recently with Kakuta joining Ligue 1 strugglers Dijon in the January transfer window.
Since returning to his Gallic homeland however, Kakuta has been on fire. He has scored three goals in four games: one against Istres in the Coupe de France, his second goal against Brest in the league, whilst on Saturday the young Pensioner bagged his third goal in against Nice in a 3-nil rout.
Kakuta broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute when the Under-21 international played a one-two with Brice Jovial on the edge of the area before drilling a low shot past Nice goalie David Ospina.
After the break Kakuta turned provider in the 52nd minute. A long ball down the middle freed the Chelsea forward and, after he spotted Brice Jovial breaking free, the loanee played in his teammate and the striker beat Ospina with a lobbed finish.
Both Gael Kakuta’s goal and assist can be seen on this video.
