Chelsea consider making new offer for John Stones after Everton reject £20m bid [Tweets]

One of the biggest transfer stories of the day was Chelsea having a £20 million bid for John Stones rejected by Everton.

The Blues are reportedly preparing another bid to test Everton’s resolve, but the initial offer had Twitter talking about how much Stones was worth.

The 21-year-old defender has made less than 50 appearances in the Premier League. Yet in his time on the pitch he’s looked like a future England captain.

Last season he made more blocks, tackles and interceptions per game than both of Chelsea’s first choice central defenders, John Terry and Gary Cahill. Jose Mourinho sees him as a successor to Terry.

Is £20m really that much in modern football?

It would appear as though most fans don’t seem to think so, and neither do clubs evidently. Manchester City only recently made 20-year-old Raheem Sterling the 11th most expensive player of all time.

Outspoken QPR midfielder Joey Barton gave his two cents on the story. He’s clearly a fan of Stones and considers him to be a prospect on par with Sterling.
