Celtic’s Cha Du-Ri booked twice v Udinese but stays on pitch

Greek referee Michael Koukoulakis avoided a hugely embarrassing situation during Celtic’s 1-1 draw at Udinese on Thursday night which put paid to hopes the Scottish side have of progressing to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

On the hour mark Scott Brown fouled Mauricio Isla on the touchline and after play had been stopped due to the Chileans injury, Koukoulakis flashed a yellow card to Cha Du-Ri.

The South Korean defender could barely beleive it and did protest his innocence although it has to be said that Scott Brown hardly defended his Celtic team mate.

Just 16 minutes later, as Udinese piled on the pressure, Cha Du-Ri brought down Pablo Armero for a clear booking and appeared to be ready to exit the pitch having picked up two yellow cards.

However, by this time we can only presume that referee Michael Koukoulakis had corrected his earlier error as the Celtic defender received a yellow and stayed on the pitch.
