“Thiago-Alves dance celebration? We apologize for it, that’s not the attitude of Barça players. It won’t happen again.” – Pep Guardiola.
“I apologize if I have offended Rayo during the celebration! The emotions made me make a mistake. It won’t happen again!” – Thiago Alcantara.
“I want to apologize to the Rayo fans who felt offended by the dance. Didn’t want to offend at any moment, just have a good time! Because they told me once when I was a kid that football was about having a good time!! Besides that, great job by the team!!” – Dani Alves.
Barcelona may have blitzed Rayo Vallecano 7-0 on Sunday night, but not all went so smoothly.
Following Thiago Alcantara’s headed goal for the fifth, the midfielder and Dani Alves embarked on an elaborate celebration that was almost immediately brought to a stop by captain Carles Puyol.
After the match, the Tweets above from Thiago and Dani Alves came almost immediately after the final whistle and Pep Guardiola was quick to criticise post-match.
Having already won the match, and with Rayo Vallecano in relegation trouble, many in the Barcelona camp felt the celebration was too elaborate and was simply rubbing salt into open wounds.
