Bremen’s Claudio Pizarro and Diego get bans for fighting

Werder Bremen suffered more than just the 1-nil loss last weekend at Karlsruhe, as their two most influential attacking players, Claudio Pizarro and Diego both picked up lengthy bans for fighting.

The incident broke out in the final minutes of the match as Pizarro was saw red after punching Karlsruhe’s Martin Stoll in the face. A scuffle then broke out between players from both sides, with Diego caught on camera grabbing the neck of Christian Eichner. The referee was blindsided to the incident at the time, but the German federation have since used video evidence to punish the Brazilian for his behaviour.

The punishments served were severe, with Pizarro picking up a three-match suspension while Diego has been banned for four games.

Both incidents can be seen here.
