The footage comes from the goalless encounter between Rennes and Valenciennes on Saturday in Ligue 1, a match which saw both sides reduced to 10-men.
The first to receive his marching orders after just twenty-five minutes was Rennes’ 6ft 3in Senegalese midfielder Abdou Kader Mangane, who committed a horrendous foul on Valenciennes’ Jonathan Lacourt.
With Mangane looking to close down the advancing Lacourt 25-yards from goal, the Valenciennes midfielder had too much guile about him to get caught in possession, with Lacourt playing in a teammate just as Mangane launched himself into the tackle. And when Mangane attempted to retrieve possession he committed his whole body to the task, recklessly throwing himself into a two-footed challenge that caught Lacourt full on the ankle.
Immediately Lacourt knew he was in trouble, calling for medical assistance with his arms waving furiously in the air, while his assailant Mangane took on a “butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth” expression, looking blank-faced and shocked at the red card which ordered him off the pitch.
