We’ve all seen the cliched American teen films pictured on a college campus where downing beer is considered the true indicator of a person’s character. The message is clear. Mass consumption of ale is important Stateside.
Life imitated art a few weeks ago when Columbus Crew captain Frankie Hejduk decided to celebrate his side’s 3-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls by heading over to the raucous support, throwing his shirt into the crowd, and guzzling a fan’s pitcher of beer in front of the wild support. To be fair to Hejduk he had played a belter, netting a goal and an assist in the win. (Match highlights can be seen here.)
And Hejduk proved that his love for beer holds now bound last weekend, as the suspended Crew member decided that he would enjoy himself at the Columbus-LA Galaxy match by mingling with fans outside the ground, climbing on top of a car, and necking another cold one. (See the footage here.) Such was his happiness to be around the fans, Hejduk even performed a Scottish jig.
To be fair, at least Hejduk managed to keep his balance on top of the vehicle, unlike Stuart McCall back-in-the-day.
