Beginning at the end, even if Arsenal were to sign Florian Thauvin how many Gunners’ fans would be satisfied?
And another question. Who is Florian Thauvin anywhere? Is a 19-year-old Bastia teenager midfielder really the type of signing Arsene Wenger needs to make these days?
The Express report on Tuesday that Arsenal have lodged “a £4m bid for Florian Thauvin. The Frenchman has been sounded as a Gunners target, however he has also been on Newcastle’s radar as they look to secure their Barclays Premier League status for next season. Thauvin has been in fine form for Bastia this season, and has three goals to his name from 17 appearances.”
Many Gunners fans will surely be disappointed that another French diamond in the rough is being mooted as a solution to Arsenal’s woes.
Isn’t it time for a serious, ready-made, fully-fledged footballer to be signed by Arsene Wenger. David Villa, for example, fits the mould, not another starlet without big game experience.
Thauvin is an attacking midfielder who is usually found high up the left hand side of the pitch. Noticeably Thauvin occupies the same position which the likes of Gervinho, Lukas Podolski and Andrey Arshavin have all failed to cement as their own in the Arsenal first team, and so rumours that Wenger maybe in the market for another similiar player could cynically be read as an admission that none of the previous signings have proved successful.
Yet, before we get carried away with the rumour mill, there are plenty of reasons to believe this deal will never come to fruition. Bastia have taken the bold position of writing off the proposed transfer on their club website, posting the following statement:
Following the publication of certain articles in the press, the Sporting Club Bastia categorically denies that there are any talks with Arsenal about Florian Thauvin. The club does not intend to participate in gossip and fantasies.
And yet the gossip keeps flowing.
Below see a couple of clips of Florian Thauvin in action including an amazing flap-flap move which left one of his teammates flat on his arse, plus his individual highlights against Bordeaux from earlier in the season when the midfielder bagged a brace in the game.
