Barry Fry, the former Manchester United apprentice, Barnet and Birmingham manager and now director of football at Peterborough, found himself at the centre of Sky Sports News’ coverage when the announcement of Fabio Capello’s resignation was announced on Wednesday evening.
Called in to chat about Middlesbrough v Sunderland in the FA Cup, Fry was then gave his thoughts on arguably the biggest football story for some time and he produced quite a show of the archetypal “Little Englander.”
If you think the universal calls for Harry Redknapp to take over from Fabio Capello were full of inconsistencies, after all the Italian had the best win record of any England manager and ‘Arry has won a solitary FA Cup, wait until you hear what Fry has to say.
Among the classic lines, bordering on racism, spouted by Barry Fry were:
“I can’t believe any Englishman wants a foreigner as manager of our country, I can’t believe there is one out there!”
“We want an Englishman full of passion and commitment.”
“We’ve had enough of these foreigners, they ain’t got no passion, no commitment. All they want is the money.”
“Englishman in charge of England.”
