Over the past week there have been a ton of “exclusives” with plenty of hacks and football websites claiming they know the two line-ups that will be employed by Manchester United and Barcelona.
We are pleased to say that here at 101 Great Goals we have our own “exclusive” and it involves videos (obviously) – the two pre-match compilations that will be played on the big screens at Wembley pre-kick off on Saturday evening before the Champions League final kicks off.
In a sign of the times, and one that will likely become common in big matches like this, both clubs have produced their own inspirational videos – Barcelona’s by Barca TV and Manchester United’s has been put together by MUTV.
As well as inspiring both sets of fans just minutes before the biggest game of the season, they are both great watches and bring a historical context to arguably the two largest clubs sides in world football.
The focus of Barcelona’s video is their three Champions League successes so far in their history. First up is the 1992 European Cup final at Wembley, as Johan Cruyff’s Dream Team beat Sampdoria 1-0 thanks to a Ronald Koeman free-kick.
Then the likes of Samuel Eto’o and Ronaldinho come into focus for Paris in 2006, followed lastly by Rome in 2009 where Barcelona saw off Manchester United 2-0 – the last time the two sides met.
Manchester United meanwhile take a longer view at their effort and include vintage black and white footage before the Busby Babes feature and the Munich Crash. The video then moves on to their first European Cup triumph (at Wembley) in 1968.
Then we are treated to Manchester United through the ages, the FA Cup successes and finals of the 70s and 80s and then Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign in charge with the likes of Mark Hughes, Eric Cantona, Steve Bruce, Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane all featuring.
And of course, the Champions League final victories over Bayern Munich in Barcelona and against Chelsea in Moscow.
Even if you are not fans of either side – these two excellently produced videos will get the pulses racing and set up the final perfectly.
In comparison, Manchester United feature in a Turkish Airlines video that has just been released, which is simply bizarre.
