Barcelona have brought in some brilliant attacking talents during the summer, most notably Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic but surprisingly so far no defenders.
Goalkeepers Marc Andre ter-Stegen and Claudio Bravo will undoubtedly help replace Victor Valdes – who’s injury was one of the main reasons Barcelona fell away at the back end of last season.
Incredibly, considering the fact that Carles Puyol has retired and Barcelona are crying out for defenders, there has still been no player brought in to supplement the backline.
Catalan paper Sport suggest Barcelona have now turned their focus away from PSG’s Marquinhos and Valencia’s Jeremy Mathieu to focus on two of the stars of the World Cup.
Barcelona’s director of football Andoni Zubizarreta admitted on Wednesday that they have a “Plan B” and this is considered to be moves for Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels and Ajax’s Daley Blind.
Hummels has already been linked on a number of occasions to Barcelona and is also thought to be of interest to Manchester United. It still seems questionable whether the German centre back would leave Borussia Dortmund.
A more attainable target for Barcelona is undoubtedly Daley Blind – who would likely be available for around 12 million euros – and crucially can play on the left or in the middle.
