Faced with the possibility missing out on both David Luiz and Daniel Agger, if a report from Belgian news outlet Het Laatste Nieuws is to believed, Barcelona have now set their sights on Spurs’ versatile Jan Vertonghen, withh the paper claiming an official €27 million bid has been lodged.
Neither Spurs nor the player himself have replied to the news for the time being.
Het Laatse believe Vertonghen’s former Ajax manager Frank De Boer has been influential in this, having recommended Vertonghen to his old club Barça.
SPORT seduce Barça fans by pointing out that Vertonghen ‘loves’ the city of Barcelona, reminding them of the picture he posted last summer with friends in the iconic Las Ramblas quarter.
Vertonghen has become a firm fans favourite at White Hart Lane, and coupled with the prospect of losing Bale, this would be a devastating double whammy for Spurs were it to happen.
