Amazingly, former Gunner Marc Overmars had been turning out on a regular basis for Go Ahead Eagles in Holland’s Jupiler League this year. But on Friday night the winger’s season came to a dramatic end as Overmars was forced off the field with a broken leg.
At 36-year-old, Overmars bought the second division club for a reported ₤200,000, and had since made 23 appearances for the Eagles this season. But, after coming on as a substitute only minutes before his injury, it is now questionable whether Marc Overmars will ever return to the game.
Sadly for Overmars, his injury arrived at a time when Australian outfit, Perth Glory, were said to be sniffing around the legend as they looked to bring in some experience for the 2009 A-League championship.
