For anyone watching football in Britain during the ’90s, one of the benchmark programmes was Frank Skinner and David Baddiel’s Fantasy Football show. The football-loving comedians pre-dated the Soccer AM era, fusing football, entertainment and comedy to produce a winning formula that soon became a cult classic for all football fans.
One of the staples of the show was the “Phoenix from the Flames” segment in which Skinner and Baddiel went about recreating a famous goal or moment from the annals of football history, with those involved taking part in the skit. Everyone, from Jimmy Greaves to Peter Beardsley, found themselves the butt of the joke.
Fast-forward to today, and now Aldershot Town have decided to bring back the feature for their own fans.
Changing the title of their version to “Shots from the Flames,” the debut episode released by the League Two outfit sees striker Danny Hylton recreate his equaliser against Bury from earlier in the season.
