Despite protestations from Arsene Wenger in his press conference ahead of Arsenal’s match with Newcastle on Monday, it seems hugely likely that Lukas Podolski will be a high profile arrival at the Emirates in the summer.
Wenger said yesterday: “At the moment we have not signed anybody. There is still no agreement. The distance to the agreement is not always linked with the signing. When you are very close you are quickly very far again, but Podolski is a good player, I wouldn’t deny that.”
As a result of all the speculation this week, there is now a raft of interest from Arsenal fans in Podolski and there were a number of requests for us to find the video of the German striker’s sending off for Cologne in their 1-0 win over Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
It was Podolski’s first ever Bundesliga sending off and referee Giudo Winkmann has a lot to answer for. Hertha’s Levan Kobiashvili held the Arsenal bound striker by the head and he simply pushed him off. By all accounts, Podolski put in a fine performance before his departure on 76.
