Arjen Robben apologises for disgraceful dive (Bochum 1 – Bayern Munich 2)

In the end flying Dutchman Arjen Robben was the match winner for Bayern Munich as they came from behind to win 2-1 at Bochum in the DFB Pokal.

Just before the break though, Robben shamed himself with a shocking dive, perhaps one of the worst ever seen during a professional football match, as Bayern looked to come back from 1-0 down.

Clearly aiming to win a penalty from diving defender Marcel Maltritz, Robben stumbled before literally jumping in the air and simulating a foul, nowhere near the prone defender.

After the game, Robben said: “That was stupid. Perhaps it was a penalty, but then I should have fallen earlier. I saw that I could not get the ball. It was stupid. I must not do things like this – and I apologise.”

So bad was the dive and resultant booking that hopefully the public shame will be enough to deter Robben from ever behaving so badly again.
