Why didn’t the Toon learn the lessons of Manchester United?
Sunderland and Boro fans are taking much joy this Tuesday in reliving the pre-match entertainment before Newcastle’s goalless draw with Portsmouth last night. The Geordie home faithful were forced to listen to opera singer Graham Danby who, wearing an Newcastle shirt with the cheesy name “Top Chanter” written across the back, belted out a rendition of “The Blaydon Races” just prior to kick-off.
With the Magpies often cited for their passionate home support and heading into a match so crucial for their Premier League survival, why Newcastle took the decision to employ an artificial rabble rouser to liven up the crowd seems baffling.
Looking at the rendition of “There’s only one Alan Shearer” at the end of the video now just seems totally embarrassing.
