And the irony was that last Sunday was Fifa’s world Fair Play day.
After Chivas clawed a last-gasp 2-all draw at Puebla on Sunday night, the home side were so upset at throwing away the three points that the teams began battling it out against each other once the referee blew his full time whistle.
Almost immediately as the play stopped the brawl erupted, and at the centre of the scuffle was Puebla’s bald man-mountain Alejandro Acosta facing off against Chivas’ number 7, Gonzalo Pineda. After initially clashing right under the noses of the match officials the pair were quickly separated by their fellow colleagues and management teams as all hell broke loose on the pitch.
Soon pockets of trouble popped up all over the pitch as those who looked to try and quell the unrest on the pitch only seemed to make matters worse by antagonising the angry footballers even further.
Eventually a semblance of order was restored as the Chivas players collectively made their way down the tunnel went back to the locker rooms, as yet another unnecessary moment of violence drew to a close.
