“I’m so proud to have represented my country and to play well and score really is a dream come true. I tried to play my normal game and everything went well. The most important thing was the win, it was a huge game. It hasn’t really sunk in yet. All I’m thinking about is Poland on Tuesday and then it’s back to Spurs and preparing for Villa. JD [Jermain Defoe] and Kyle [Walker] have been giving me a bit of stick [about not scoring], so it’s nice to keep them quiet for a while!” – Andros Townsend.
Unsurprisingly, man of the moment Andros Townsend features in all the major back pages of the papers in England on Sunday after a scintillating display against Montonegro on Friday night.
The Sunday Sun and Sunday Mirror reveal that Tottenham have been negotiating a new deal with Townsend after he became a regular in Andre Villas-Boas’ side this season, but talks now look set to be accelerated.
Townsend is set for a 300% pay rise at Spurs as he moves from around a £10,000-a-week deal to £40,000-a-week.
The 22-year-old winger is two years into a five-year contract at Tottenham and Daniel Levy will likely now tie down Townsend to a longer deal.
