After scoring the winner in a World Cup final, Andres Iniesta is not the unheralded player he once was but in the midst of Barcelona’s brilliant team, including Lionel Messi, it is sometimes easy to forget just how wonderful the pale Spanish midfielder is.
On Sunday, Iniesta, was majestic and although Lionel Messi scored two – to take his tally for 2012 to 82 (!) – it was the Spaniard that really impressed with a stunning spell just after the break.
Here is a run down of the Iniesta magic v Levante:
47: Iniesta freed Messi with a terrific through ball, dissecting two defenders, that the Argentine finished with a lovely chip. “The Flea” points out Iniesta as he celebrates the Barcelona opener.
51: For his next trick, Iniesta bamboozles down the left hand touchline and somehow squeezes the ball back for Messi to slot home. The Barcelona number 10 goes straight to the diminutive midfielder to thank him for another assist.
57: Andres Iniesta cracks home a beauty in off the bar.
63: Cesc Fabregas is teed up by Iniesta to round the keeper and complete the rout. The former Arsenal midfielder also publicly thanks his team mate during the celebration for the fourth Barcelona goal.
Surely its time to compare Iniesta with the likes of Zinedine Zidane – one of the true greats of the modern game.
