Tucked away in the multitude of state championships currently playing out in Brazil, Saturday witnessed an incredible miss in a match few will have even known was playing.
Aracruz-ES hosted Conilon in the second leg of the final of the Campeonato Capixaba and, having lost the reverse tie 2-1, the hosts recorded a 4-1 victory to win the local title.
Conilon’s hammering was made that much worse by Ricardo Paraiba’s outrageous miss in the final minutes of the game.
After the visitors had worked the ball into the danger-area, a low cross from the left found Paraiba unmarked and facing an open goal inside the Aracruz 6-yard box.
It was the simplest of simple chances. Missing was completely unacceptable. And yet that’s exactly what happened.
