The horrific events that took place in Egypt last week continue to hang like a dark shadow over the Beautiful Game, which has forced the Colombian FA to react following two violent pitch invasions last weekend.
The first incident occurred after Deportivo Pereira put four past Alianza Petrolera in the second division match on Sunday.
Despite seeing their team win, around 70 Deportivo Pereira fans jumped the fencing at the final whistle to taunt the Alianza Petrolera players. Moreover, visiting keeper Santiago Rodas was reportedly assaulted by one of the pitch invaders during the disturbance.
Also on Sunday in Colombia, the top division contest between Deportes Tolima and Santa Fe was spoiled by over a hundred home fans storming the pitch during the halftime interval.
According to local reports, the Tolima fans charged their opposing supporters in an effort to retrieve a flag which one of their ultras had lost last time the teams met in Bogata.
With some Tolima fans said to be carrying sticks and rocks, the on-hand security officers managed to quell the initial riot in the ground. Sadly, however, after Tolima had won the match 2-1, a reported ten policemen were amongst the injured as the violence spilled out onto the streets.
As a result of the events in Tolima, the local authorities have issued a one month banning order for all hooligans caught up in the melee while discussions are ongoing on whether the club will now be forced to play their next three home matches at a neutral venue.
With regard to Deportivo Pereira, it seems that promises from the club to crack down on ensuring such scenes are not be repeated have proved enough to satisfy the authorities that no further action is needed.
