We didn’t think there was much football played anywhere on Tuesday evening due to the dastardly international break but we hadn’t reckoned with the Maldives Presidents Cup semi-final.
League leaders New Radiant took on second placed Victory (what a presumptuous name?!) with the former emerging 2-1 victors in extra time to reach the final of the Maldives cup competition.
After a goalless 90 minutes, the match went into extra-time and New Radiant took a 1-0 lead through Ashfaaq. Just two minutes later goalkeeper Imran Mohamed had a goal kick and sent it booming into the Victory half.
The kick was huge and embarrasses Victory keeper Faisal with the ball going right through his hands. In truth, whilst we would love to celebrate Imran Mohamed for his goal, the glove work here is horrific from his opposite number.
On the positive side, the Maldives press this morning believe Imran Mohamed scored the first keeper goal in the country’s history.
Imran Mohamed has though in fact scored before, when he was playing up front against All Youth Linkage last year.
Watch Imran Mohamed’s goalie goal and gasp in wonder at the shocking error from Faisal.
