A bum-rap for Carlos Alberto

In one of the most bizarre stories for a while, on-loan Werder Bremen midfielder Carlos Alberto, who is currently plying his trade for Botafogo, has been banned for eight matches in Brazil for slapping an opposition player on the bum.

The incident arose in Botafogo’s match with Gremio from Octobter 4th, with cameras catching Carlos Alberto touching defender Rever’s bum. And despite criticism that the decision was ridiculous, the commission have defended it, describing Alberto’s actions as “undisciplined and immoral conduct.”

Botafogo will be appealing the ban, with coach Ney Franco leading to calls saying, “That was not an issue for the disciplinary board. It was a joke! It’s part of the game. Even our opponents were laughing at it.”

The incident itself can be seen here.
