Former Slovenian international Mirnes Sisic failed to score into an open net, from a yard out, on Wednesday.
Playing for OFI Crete against Panserraikos in the Greek Cup, 30-year-old Sisic became the latest footballer to blow a golden goal-scoring opportunity when finding the net seemed a nailed-on, sure thing.
The move began in the 27th minute when Sisic, playing on the right wing, passed the ball infield to kick-off a series of rapid passes that tore through the Panserraikos midfield and defence. Eventually the ball was worked out to the left wing, where a low cross was fed to the far post towards the onrushing Sisic.
Yet, despite being unmarked and with the goal gaping, Sisic could only strike the woodwork when that seemed almost impossible to do.
The miss took everyone by surprise; including the match commentator, whose voice wobbled with shock as he saw the miss unfold.
