If this had been Xabi Alonso or David Beckham, people would be falling over themselves after watching this video. Sadly for the more modest Japanese footballer Kazumasa Uesato his name fails to carry the same weight, and so his outstanding strike on Tuesday night in the J-League second division has stayed under wraps. Until now that is.
In usual circumstances the match between Consadole Sapporo and Avispa Fukuoka would have gone completely unnoticed, but an outstanding 70-yard goal from midfielder Uesato made that an impossibility.
One suspects that Uesato only felt confident enough to risk the audacious lob as his side was cruising towards victory with an already established 2-goal cushion in-hand. That said, nothing can take away from the beauty of the strike as, after picking up the ball close to his own penalty box, Uesato took only a few steps forward before picking his spot and smacking a stunning left-footed shot straight into the net without bouncing.
Setting down the marker for goal of the week, Kazumasa Uesato’s incredible 70-yard lob can be seen here.
