The 2009/10 Swiss Super League got underway this week and round one saw a major upset as the reigning champions FC Zurich were overturned 3-2 at home by rivals Young Boys Bern. Yet, despite losing the first match of the season, Frenchman Eric Hassli managed to open his season on a high as the Zurich midfielder cracked home a belter to open his account for the new year.
The goal arrived in the 35th minute, after the Young Boys had already moved into a 2-nil lead.
We pick up the action as the visitors looked to clear their lines by hoofing the ball towards the halfway line. Pressing, the hosts eventually managed to claim possession off the YB forwards, with a pass being played out of defence into Hassli’s feet with the number 10 fully 35-yards from goal.
Needing just one touch to turn on the proverbial sixpence, Eric Hassli only had one thing in mind when the ball arrived at his feet. And the result was unstoppable.
