Up until we saw the clip below from the Ecuador top flight, we had always considered Guti’s famous back heel assist for Karim Benzema at Deportivo La Coruna in 2010 as the best back heel assist we had ever seen.
LDU Quito travelled to Manta on Sunday for their first game of the new Apertura season in Ecuador and eked out a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Claudio Bieler.
This only tells half the story and the goal is a brilliant watch. David Quiroz (pictured) picked up the ball in the middle of the park and surged forward before sliding the ball to his right, when the cross came in it fell at the feet of the 29-year-old midfielder.
Without a look, Quiroz back heeled the ball to Bieler who was just onside, as can be seen from the various replays below.
David Quiroz’s brilliant back heel assist for LDU Quito’s winner at Manta is here.
