Liverpool were definitely second best on Monday night, as they were beaten 3-1 by Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City.
New signing Mario Balotelli could only watch on from the stands as his Liverpool side were taken apart by a Stevan Jovetic inspired Manchester City.
Liverpool’s defence were incredibly poor, with new signings Dejan Lovren and Alberto Moreno both committing costly mistakes.
There weren’t many positives for Brendan Rodgers to take, until Rickie Lambert came off the bench to cause Pablo Zabaleta to score an own goal.
