Archie Thompson is left facing a suspension after he was sent off for appearing to swear at referee Matthew Breeze in the 58th minute.

Houston Dynamo 3 - LA Galaxy 0 (MLS, October 18, 2008) For the third year in a row, the Galaxy failed to reach the playoffs. Three goals in a nine-minute span in the first half did the damage, with a Bryan Jordan og and strikes from Dwayne De Rosario and Brian Ching ending another year of disappointment for Beckham et al.

New York Red Bulls 3 - Columbus Crew 1 (MLS, October 18, 2008) New York took a 2-1 lead thanks to a Juan Pablo Angle brace, with Steven Lenhart heading Columbus onto the scoreboard. But the game belonged to Red Bulls keeper Danny Cepero, who became the first MLS shotstopper to score a goal as his place kick travelled the length of the pitch and bounced over Gruenebaum.
