One of the big talking points from this weekend’s action in the Premier League surrounded the coin throwing incident at Fratton Park, where an Aston Villa supporter hurled a 50p coin in the direction of Harry Redknapp, only to strike the linesman.
Yet this incident was not the only such circumstance at the weekend. YouTuber “pl0ugh220″ offers eye-witness footage of Everton fans also coming under fire from missiles, alleging that Arsenal fans were guilty of throwing “coins and stuff” on the Toffee away support.
Obviously, we cannot exactly say what was being chucked at the Everton fans, nor can we point the finger of responsibility at anybody, but what these pictures do clearly show is that the Evertonians were unquestionable showered by unwanted missiles while at the Emirates on Saturday.
See the footage here.

I have sat upper tier front row above the away fans before - I think it’s a stupid system and fans will be fans.

As an Arsenal fan, I’m deeply embarrased. As someone with experience, and contrary to popular supporter lore, I know that stupid people are found among the supporters of all teams, including, sadly, my own and not just the “other”. Eject them from the stadium and let people who beave and are there to support their team ABOVE all else in.

Your title is very inaccurate, no one is caught doing anything.
The footage provides nothing convincing, you only see one thing (coloured blue, looks like paper) falling from above, you cannot see any coins, etc being thrown or more importantly who’s throwing/dropping them or how/why.
The clip does show lots of Everton fans moaning about something, but then again moaning seems to be the main pastime on Merseyside.
What must be pointed out is that the Everton fans were fighting with Arsenal Stewards and Police for the best part of 30 minutes with numerous arrests during the second half, the stewards/police would not have interveened like that without reason. Why were they fighting. And given the number of stewards/police in that area why were no Arsenal fans arrested. That Arsenal section near the away fans was left totally undisturbed. Why is this if things were being thrown.

I was there and the Everton fans had tried to antagonise the Arsenal fans sat near them. When the stewards stepped in they started fighting with them and the police. It did go on for a large part of the 2nd half and nothing was being thrown from above for the majority of this time.
Certain elements in the Everton support seemed intent on continuing fighting with the stewards and it just didn’t blow itself out as you would expect. As for coins and objects being thrown. I saw one thing which looked like a wrapper coming down from above but that was it.
I agree though that if any fan is caught throwing things at fans then they should be banned for life

Sat in the away myslef, i would tell you that a large quantity of spit was directed from above when Arsenal equalised and again when they took the lead. The problems occurred because the stewards said they knew who was doing it, but they wouldnt remove them during the game. This incensed a large part of our fans, especially as coins and empty coke bottles started coming down. When we tried to move out of the firing line and to the back of the stand, we were told we had to go back in our seats or leave the stadium. When this continued some of our fans, no more than 50, took matters in their own hands. Whilst this was wrong, where they meant to just be subjected to this idiotic behaviour, there arguments where with the stewards, not the Arsenal fans on the lower tier.

Digusted with the title of your blog. I was right beside trouble on Saturday. McG gives a good account of what happened. The whole game about 20 Everton fans were intent on causing as much trouble as possible ranging from vile abuse to then accuse an innocent arsenal fan of spitting in their faces. He was nearly ejected and he had done nothing. When the trouble kicked off near the end I did not see one Arsenal fan throw a punch or missile. The hale of missiles (coins, lighters and saliva) were coming from the Everton side. A few Arsenal fans were cut from the coins. I know it is a hard job but the stewards/Police should of acted far earlier on the 20 or so that were causing trouble by warning them and standing beside them instead of giving them free reign. If there was stuff thrown down from the Upper Tier from an Arsenal fan then that was wrong but GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT WITH YOUR TITLE!

There is nothing on the video that shows coins being thrown, so why are you even discussing it?
October 20th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Priestos, please tell me where the away fans are supposed to go?
Ideally after sitting in the Clock End for years and putting up with their banter (abuse) I would suggest a cage - There is no smoke without fire!

Every Everton fan I’ve spoken to who was at the match is reporting the same thing.
They were showered with liquid (be it spit, drink or whatever) and had things such as coins and lighters thrown at them from above.
Obviously the plastic post-Wenger Gooners who patrol the internet will react with fury to the suggestions that such things happen at the glorious Emirates Stadium but the truth is….it did.
As an Everton fan I’m happy to admit that a lot of my fellow supporters act like complete idiots and if we did not support the same team I’d never associate with them. Why is it some people find it impossible to admit that their fellow fans act like scum?

Tim K, read above for condemnation and also read the online gooner … they, along with just about ever other gooner apart from the f*kwits who chucked stuff abhor this behaviour.
Find the miscreants and ban them, there is no place for this in the modern game.

The Gooners are totally dumb.
When they were away at Sunderland they did the same thing only to be banged by the Stadium of Light faithful like me.
First they provoke you and then they suffer.
Remember that you cant clap with one hand so both parties have to be involved.

Paul you are a moron.
I was in the crowd and coins were being thrown at us, no two ways about and we have every right to moan about it. My friends 10 year old kid was hit in the head by a coin and when our fans complained to the police they got heavy handed with us.
obviously its not a specific problem with arsenal, every fan has dickhead fans but in this case it was the arsenal fans who were behaving terribly
October 22nd, 2008 at 2:08 pm
oh and the reason everton fans were fighting with stewards was because they were being constantly pelted with coins, spit, lighters etc and the stewards and police were doing nothing about it.
honestly you have to be one of the most ignorant and deluded fuckwits ever, you simply can’t accept that some of your fans may have been in the wrong.
grow the fuck up you silly little child

@ Jon
You clearly lie for a living. what you said is grade a complete and utter bullshit
you should be ashamed of yourself for resorting to making up facts to make a small section of your fans look better.
pathetic and utterly cringeworthy

Utter rubbish…I was at the game and no missiles were thrown, just a few pissed everton fans trying to fight the stewards.

All Arsenal fans are just towels.
