Portugal 2 – South Korea 2 (U20 World Cup, June 24, 2013) Aladje’s opener for Portugal was pegged back by a terrific goal from Seung-Woo Ryu, Bruma lashed in for 2-1 Portugal on the hour but Hyun Kim had the final say.
Throughout the day there were suggestions that Thiago Alcantara’s father has received an offer from Manchester United for the Spain Under-21 star and El Mundo Deportivo have revealed the terms late on Tuesday evening.
Last Friday, Manchester United held talks with Mazinho offering a 5-year-deal worth 6 million euros a season.
According to El Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United are now eager to hold talks with Barcelona and are willing to pay the 21.75 million euro release clause (including VAT).
After two Manchester United executives met Mazinho, the former World Cup winner has been in discussion with his son Thiago to discuss the offer.
It looks like Thiago’s future will be decided this week and the midfielder will have one final discussion with Barcelona before making his decision.
El Mundo Deportivo add that Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Chelsea are still watching developments.
Thiago’s focus is understood to be playing time, in a bid to secure his spot in Vicente Del Bosque’s Spain World Cup squad next summer.
It was thought to be a 2-horse race for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani between Chelsea and Real Madrid – now the Daily Mirror lead their football coverage tomorrow with the suggestion that David Moyes and Manchester United are also keen on last season’s top goal scorer in Serie A.
Just a couple of days ago, Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis suggested Cavani would decide his future by July 10, after the Confederations Cup.
It is possible Cavani will even stay at Napoli, who play in the Champions League next season.
Whilst the suggestion that this “places Wayne Rooney’s future in doubt at Old Trafford” will sell newspapers, it is questionable whether United are in for Cavani.
They have enough striking options if Rooney were to leave and Cavani and Robin van Persie don’t look like the most natural fit.
Plus, would Manchester United splash out 63 million euros (Cavani’s release clause) when David Moyes needs to strengthen his midfield?
Kudos to Scott from Republik of Mancunia for some incredible investigative work – finding Thiago Alcantara in a Manchester United shirt as a youngster.
The rumours suggesting Thiago Alcantara could be heading to Manchester United have been growing in recent days.
Today’s latest update, via AS, is that Manchester United have submitted an “irresistible” offer to Thiago and talks between the two clubs over an 18 million euro deal (the current release clause for the Spain Under-21 star) will take place this week.
Ever since Thiago was linked with David Moyes’ side we have seen some spurious reasons for the Barcelona midfielder heading to Old Trafford.
The picture above and video below, show Thiago Alcantara in a Manchester United – specifically the 1999 vintage – hence we place him as an 8-year-old at the time.
It comes from a documentary on Thiago’s father, Mazinho, the Brazilian 1994 World Cup winner which can be seen below, keep your eye on the right hand side of the video.
Are the World and European champions actually human?!
Brazilian portal Globoesporte have released some crazy revelations about the Spanish national team this Monday evening.
Last week reports emerged that the Spanish national team had been the victim of a robbery with money and items stolen at their Recife hotel following the 2-1 win over Uruguay in the Confederations Cup.
Allegedly, six Spanish players were the victims of the robbery but the case was dropped pretty quickly.
Apparently, the Spain players celebrated the Uruguay victory at the Hotel Golden Tulip Recife Palace and after the robbery hotel staff were called in for questioning over who was responsible for the missing money and goods.
Denials from the hotel staff ensured CCTV was checked and it emerged that certain Spain players invited some women to join their party which included a band and plenty of beer and Caipirinha.
Reports in Brazil and Spain this evening claim there were five women involved and that a game of strip poker was played during the party.
When the women left the hotel the next morning, the Spain players realised money to the tune of 1,000 euros was missing.
The hotel manager and head of Spain’s security (Raul Jimenez) hoped to bury the news but Globoesporte got hold of the story and now Brazil’s Tourism Police are investigating.
101GG is hoping the CCTV video footage emerge in the coming days…

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has had an interesting 2013 so far.
Townsend was terrific under former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp at relegated QPR at the back end of 2012/2013, one of the bright spots in a side that struggled in the Premier League.
Despite only playing for QPR for half a season, the Rangers supporters named Townsend their player of the season.
Yet, all the great performances were somewhat undone when Townsend received a four-month ban (three months suspended) for breaching betting regulations.
Townsend missed the Under-21 European Championships, where in truth he couldn’t have done much worse than any of Stuart Pearce’s side and paid a fine of 18,000 pounds.
Today, a Tweet from Townsend suggests he is very much part of Andre Villas-Boas’ plans next season, as he asked his followers for a new profile picture.
Previously, Townsend appeared in a QPR kit on Twitter.
IFK Gothenburg 4 – Mjallby 2 (Allsvenskan, June 24, 2013) Two goals from Tobias Hysen maintained IFK’s position on top of the table.
Malmo 2 – Elfsborg 1 (Allsvenskan, June 24, 2013) Jiloan Hamad had opened the scoring in the 24th minute only for Mohamed Bangura to equalise two minutes after the break. A draw seemed to be on the cards but with 14 minutes to go Tokelo Rantie rattled the back of the net to secure all three points for the home side.
Obviously the video below isn’t real, but who cares.
Canon, the camera makers, have released a new commercial titled “Little Big Shots” which stars a host of toddlers showing off ridiculous skills in a football match.
The thought behind the video is to stress how big talents can be stored in little things.

Huddersfield Town have pulled off a quality piece of photoshopping to help boost the profile of their brand new 2013-14 home shirt, including legends from Arsenal and Manchester United in their PR campaign.
The Terriers have man-made a team photo show using photoshopped faces of club’s greatest legends.
Managed by Arsenal hero Herbert Chapman (Huddersfield’s boss from 1921–1925) and with Manchester United’s Denis Law (1956-60) crouching in the front row, Huddersfield’s new kit promotion picture is brilliantly out of the box.
