Stevenage 3 - Mansfield 2 (Conference, October 7, 2008) Boro went in front in the 45th minute after Chanot brought down Cole in the area and Morison scored the penalty. Mansfield levelled 11 minutes into the second half when Gavin Hurren’s long range shot found the bottom corner. The visitors then went in front three minutes later when O’Connor drove the ball home. But back came Boro, and Cole restored parity with a drilled shot that beat the Town keeper 25 minutes from time. Bostwick then netted the winner after Town keeper Paddy Gamble dropped the ball, with Mansfield’s Chanot sent off in the final stages.

Vitoria Setubal 0 - Maritimo 2 (Superliga, October 7, 2008) A nightmare pass from the Setubal keeper gifted the ball to Marcinho, who took his chance to score the opener. Manu exposed more poor defending to add a second in the final minute.

Houston Dynamo 2 - San Francisco 1 (CONCACAF Champions League, October 7, 2008) Chris Wondolowski headed Houston in lead after 13 minutes. Temistocles Perez equalised in the 47th minute with a fabulous 30-yard lob which sailed in over the head of Dynamo goalkeeper Tony Caig. Wondolowski hit the post as Houston searched for the winner, and the got it through a fine strike from distance from star Dwayne De Rosario two minutes from time.
