Video evidence: Alessandro Rosina (Tottenham)

Perhaps one of the most illogical transfer rumours of the last few days has seen basement-club Tottenham linked with Torino’s Alessandro Rosina.

Back in 2007 Serie A TV produced a wonderful feature on Rosina, reviewing the 24-year-old playmaker’s career up until that point. The feature chronicled Rosina’s early days at Parma before moving onto Torino in Serie B, where he became an instant hero with the Granata, helping them climb back into Italy’s top flight. But on reaching the promised land of domestic football, Alberto Zaccheroni opted to play Rosina on the right hand side, forcing the attack minded player into defensive duties, which Rosina failed to execute successfully. Only when Rosina was re-positioned in his favoured role in the hole behind the strikers, did his fortunes begin to change.

Since joining Torino, the impish left-footed attacker has chalked up 29 goals in 112 appearances, and was called up to the Azzurri just once, against South Africa, in a friendly.

From an outsider’s perspective however, this proposed transfer makes about as much sense as an inflatable dartboard. Spurs’ books are jam-packed with attacking, creative midfielders, while (as has been documented to death) they are scraping the barrel for bodies to play up front. The idea that under-fire Juande Ramos is now looking to make an already over-crowded midfield even more congested seems farcical, and even if it is suggested that this is another unfortunate Damien Commoli decision, then this would be one signing too far for the laughable sporting director at Spurs.
