Don’t mess with the ball-boy
Last night’s Copa Libertadores match-up between Brazilian side Flamengo and Uruguay’s Nacional witnessed one of the most bizarre red-card offences of all-time, as Flamengo midfielder Toro was ordered to an early bath for pushing over a 13-year-old ball-boy Nicolas Dominguez, as his side collapsed to an empathic 3-0 defeat in Montevideo.
The incident can be seen here, and the TV interview with the youngster (with the adoring crowd cheering him on) can be seen here. (Translations are welcome.)
Other famous episodes involving ball-boys include, the fresh faced Tottenham ball-boy who became an instant cult hero for his enthusiastic throw to an opposition player of Famagusta FC, the mischievous Brazilain youngster who “scored” an 89th minute equaliser against Atletico Sorocaba for Santacruzense, and the wonderful header from the “laid-back” ball-boy made famous by Soccer AM.
