Spurs qualify for the knockout stages of the UEFA Cup

Anderlecht 1 - Tottenham 1 (UEFA Cup, December 6, 2007) (Longer highlights here.) The repeat of the 1984 UEFA Cup final was a boring insipid affair which came to life midway through the second-half. In keeping with their defensive season so far, dithering from Dawson and Jenas allowed Bart Goor to give Anderlecht the lead. Two minutes later Dimitar Berbatov equalised from the penalty spot after Jenas was brought down.

Red Star Belgrade 0 - Bolton 1 (UEFA Cup, December 6, 2007) Gavin McCann scored the only goal on the stroke of half-time. Due to the anomalies of the UEFA Cup, Bolton despite now topping Group F, could still fail to qualify for the knockout stages.

Aalborg 1 - Getafe 2 (UEFA Cup, December 6, 2007) Getafe gained an important away win to edge themselves to the brink of qualification to the knockout stages. Goals from Hernandez and a super strike from Granero were enough despite a consolation from Prica.

Spartak Moscow 1 - Zurich 0 (UEFA Cup, December 6, 2007) Spartak claimed the win through a 57th minute winner from Igor Titov. Both teams progress to the next round thanks to Bayer Leverkusens win over Sparta Prague.

Bayer Leverkusen 1 - Sparta Prague 0 (UEFA Cup, December 6, 2007) Friedrich bagged a header 19 minutes from time to send Leverkusen through and Prague out of the competition. On the hour mark the German side were reduced to ten men after Ramelow was sent-off.

Aris Thessalonikis 1 - Braga 1 (UEFA Cup, December 6, 2007) Braga went in front courtesy of Linz’s early strike but Ronaldo levelled midway through the first-half to keep Aris’s qualification hopes alive.

Austria Vienna 0 - Panionios 1 (UEFA Cup, December 6, 2007)

***

Empoli 2 - Juventus 1 (Coppa Italia, December 6, 2007) Empoli gained a shock first-leg lead with goals from Pozzi and Abate. Iaquinta pulled one back for Juve.

Wellington Phoenix 3 - Perth Glory 0 (A-League, December 7, 2007) Phoenix made Perth pay for ill-discipline, as the Glory saw both Topor-Stanley and captain Jamie Harnwell sent off. A penalty by Smeltz gave the home side the lead, before Felipe added the second two minutes later with a simple tap in. Smeltz got his second of the match with a 71st minute header.
