Szczesny the hero
Wojciech Szczęsny played a huge part in helping AS Roma stay in the Serie A title race when he made a wonder save late in the club’s 1-0 win over Genoa on Sunday. They trail Juventus, who have a game in hand, by four points. It meant that Szczesny kept his seventh clean sheet of the Serie A season. He’s got the joint-second best record in the division. 22-year-old winger Lucas Ocampos, on loan at Genoa from Marseille, almost scored a screamer.
Chasing the game in stoppage time, the home side got the ball to Ocampos in the box. With his back to goal, he swivelled around and aimed a venomous volley at the roof of the net. It took a full-stretch Szczesny to tip it over.
The Poland international is still under contract to Arsenal. His loan spell with Roma will end when the season finishes. It will be interesting to see what the club decide to do with the 26-year-old stopper.
