Another one for the collection
Have you ever seen a goalkeeping mistake that’s so bad that it almost falls under the category of suspiciously bad? We’ve another one for you to add to the file.
This time, it is by spawn of Zizou, Luca Zidane. The 18-year-old added to a growing collection of howlers with a massive error in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win at Legia Warsaw in the UEFA Youth League.
Cruising in stoppage time, Madrid were sitting back while Legia tried to score a consolation. A long ball into the box gets close to no attacking player but a kamikaze Zidane creates danger out of nothing. He has time and space to catch the bouncing ball yet inexplicably punches it into the air. Before his intervention, it appeared to be going wide. It loops up over his head and goes over the line.
This isn’t even Zidane’s first howler of this Youth League tournament with a dribbling adventure going wrong against Borussia Dortmund. He’s obviously got ability, having won the U17 European Championships with France last year. But that last name of his means that his mistakes are going to be highlighted more than most of his contemporaries. He’s making no shortage of them.
