Guanacasteca’s Michael Duran scored one of the great own goals in football history against Puntarenas on Sunday in Costa Rica.
Playing in round 10 of the domestic Liga de Ascenso, the second tier of Costa Rican football, Puntarenas claimed a 3-1 win over Guanacasteca, and the hosts were helped out by a hilarious own goal from the visitors.
After a Puntarenas player hit the crossbar with a shot, the ball bounced out to Guanacasteca defender Michael Duran in the box.
Duran had time and space to take his time to clear the danger, but in an incredible string of events he opted to flick up the ball on his chest and then loop a header over his keeper and into the net.
It was a marvelous own goal!
